Who is responsible for your data

This website, robertcharlesmann.com, is operated by Robert Mann (“I”, “me”), based in France. I am the data controller for the personal information described below.

You can reach me about anything in this policy through the contact form on this site.

What I collect, and why

Contact form submissions. When you use a contact form, you provide your name, email address, a subject line, and your message. These are sent directly to my email inbox. They are not stored in this website’s database. I use this information solely to read and reply to your message.

Legal basis (EU/UK): legitimate interest in responding to enquiries directed at me, and the steps necessary to enter into a contract where your message concerns commissioned work.

Server logs. My hosting provider records standard technical information about requests to this site, including IP addresses, browser type, and pages requested. This is automatic, applies to all websites, and exists for security and troubleshooting.

Legal basis (EU/UK): legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and operational.

Spam protection. This site uses Google reCAPTCHA to distinguish human visitors from automated ones. reCAPTCHA collects hardware and software information, including device and application data, and sends it to Google for analysis. It sets a cookie named _GRECAPTCHA. As of 2 April 2026, Google acts as a data processor for this information, meaning it processes the data on my instructions rather than for its own purposes.

Legal basis (EU/UK): legitimate interest in preventing spam and abuse.

Embedded video. Some pages embed video hosted by YouTube. When you choose to play an embedded video, YouTube may set cookies and receive your IP address and information about your browser. Videos do not load, and YouTube is not contacted, until you click to play them. This happens under Google’s own terms.

External links. This site links to Bandcamp, Spotify, and other services. Following those links takes you to third parties with their own privacy practices, over which I have no control. Merely viewing my pages does not send any data to them.

What I do not do

No analytics or visitor-tracking software is installed on this site.

No advertising, no advertising cookies, no profiling.

I do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with anyone for their own marketing purposes.

Web fonts and video thumbnails are served from this site’s own server, not from Google.

Who else handles your data

robertcharlesmann.com — receives and stores contact form messages as email.

SiteGround — hosts this website and generates the server logs described above.

Google — processes reCAPTCHA data for spam prevention, and video data if you choose to play an embedded video.

International transfers

Some of the services above are operated by companies based in the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside the EEA or UK, those transfers rely on the safeguards those providers have put in place, including the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses.

How long I keep things

Contact form emails are kept in my inbox for as long as the correspondence remains useful, and deleted when it no longer is. Server logs are retained by my host according to their own retention schedule, typically a short rolling window. I do not maintain a marketing list or a customer database.

Your rights

If you are in the EU, EEA, or UK, you have the right to request access to the personal data I hold about you, to have inaccurate data corrected, to have data erased, to restrict or object to how it is processed, and to receive it in a portable format. You may withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority — in my case, the CNIL (Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés).

If you are in California or another US state with a privacy law, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request its deletion, to request correction, and to be free from discrimination for exercising those rights. I do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under such laws, so there is nothing to opt out of.

To exercise any of these rights, use the contact form. I will respond within one month.

YouTube cookies — set only if you choose to play an embedded video.

wp-settings-* — set only for logged-in administrators, not for visitors.

There are no analytics or advertising cookies on this site.

Children

This site is not directed at children and I do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16.

If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted here with an updated date.
